1927 RENAULT MONASTELLA
Registration Number: BF 8005

This very unusual and charming six cylinder Renault dates from 1927 and features Renault's delightful 1.5 litre 6 cylinder engine. The car is RHD and has an original coach-built cabriolet body by Mauguy of Paris and features a "Dickie" seat to the rear.

It is an older restoration which presents smartly and features a re-upholstered and re-carpeted interior. The car has an unusual but effective and original "excess fuel" cold starting device, whereby upon opening a tap in the passenger foot-well, extra fuel is bled directly into the inlet manifold. It also features 12-volt electrics, coil ignition and factory-fitted mechanical servo braking system to all 4 wheels. It is one of the last Renault models to feature the twin side-mounted radiators to the rear of the engine compartment, with the cooling air being drawn by vanes cast into the flywheel - a very effective system which works perfectly.
The engine starts easily on the "Dynastart" and soon settles into a very smooth 6 cylinder rhythm, once the oil circulates initially. The Renault drives very nicely and performs surprisingly well in all of its 3 forward gears. This is a charming, "quirky" and very pretty car which is a rare example of an early and extremely rare Monastella Cabriolet. It is not a concourse example, but is smart, reliable and nice to drive, once the unusual gear positions have been remembered. The car spent all it's earlier life in France and was imported in 2016.
